Job description

Do you want to play a key role at the heart of operations in a bustling port terminal? At Desgagnés Logistik inc. (DLI), you will join a proud and dedicated team recognized for the quality of its marine and land operations. As a dock supervisor, you become an essential player in ensuring smooth operations, managing cargo, and coordinating teams on the ground.

What to Expect

In this role, you will be responsible for the smooth running of dock operations, ensuring proper planning, organization, and optimal use of equipment and personnel. You will supervise the transfer of cargo unloaded from ships to storage areas, maintain rigorous inventory follow‑ups, and coordinate the movement of goods across the terminal.

You will actively participate in cargo staging with the ship superintendent and ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and handling standards. You will also ensure accurate record‑keeping, proper project filing, and document archiving. Each day will bring collaboration with various stakeholders, contributing to the terminal’s operational flow and ensuring an outstanding customer experience.

What We Expect From You

You are organized, detail‑oriented, and known for your good judgment. You work with precision and professionalism while maintaining a courteous attitude with teams and clients. Good knowledge of computer tools (Office 365 Suite) and ease with billing‑related reports will be useful daily.

Relevant experience in industrial, transportation, or logistics environments is a strong asset, and your bilingualism will help you communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. You have strong prioritization skills, are action‑oriented, and demonstrate excellent judgment to solve problems quickly and efficiently.

More specifically, the position includes the following Main Responsibilities:

 

Operations

        • Work closely with the ship superintendent to ensure efficient loading and unloading of cargo on board vessels or toward terminal storage areas.
        • Manage assigned teams and ensure productivity levels are met during operations.
        • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and lifting‑equipment handling protocols.
        • Supervise the movement, positioning, and organization of cargo within the terminal.
        • Maintain and update dock cargo inventories.
        • Collaborate closely with ship superintendents and the yard superintendent for smooth and coordinated operations.

 

Documentation and Compliance

        • Ensure complete and accurate records related to operations.
        • Maintain, file, and archive operational project documents.
        • Classify information to ensure quick access for key users.

Management and coordination

        • Optimize the use of human and material resources to ensure operational efficiency.
        • Ensure cargo is accessible, properly positioned, and handled according to internal standards and safety regulations.
        • Actively contribute to customer satisfaction by ensuring daily quality and operational fluidity.

 

Working Conditions

        • Permanent position.
        • Your schedule is generally from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but you must be available for maritime operations, as
          • you may be required to work overtime from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
          • Sometimes, depending on the bulk carrier at the dock, you may work from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or a night shift from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. during bulk loading/unloading.
          • You may work weekends, depending on the ships and traffic.

Required Skills

        • High school diploma
        • Good computer skills (MS Office 365)
        • Good knowledge of the various reports required when preparing invoices
        • Ability to positively represent the organization to strategic partners and suppliers
        • Relevant experience in the industrial, transportation, or logistics field is considered a strong asset
        • Bilingualism, spoken and written
        • Ability to work with precision, accuracy, professionalism, and rigor
        • Organized and structured
        • Demonstrate good judgment and courtesy when interacting with clients
        • Ability to establish healthy and respectful relationships with various stakeholders (internal and external)
