Job description

Do you want a payroll role that truly stands out?

Here, no routine, no magical automation, no “standard” payroll: you dive into a stimulating environment where each day requires analysis, understanding, adjustments, and teamwork to deliver accurate and compliant pay—often with unique situations.

What Awaits You

You will be responsible for the full payroll cycle for both salaried and unionized employees. You will manage multiple business units, several collective agreements, variable schedules, specific conditions related to marine work, and a high volume of 400 to 800 pays depending on the season.

Daily, you will validate timesheets, correct discrepancies, and clarify issues with teams and vessels. You will handle full payroll processing from A to Z: adjustments, premiums, vacation, banks, deductions, compliance, and validations.

You will be responsible for opening and closing employee files while ensuring data accuracy in internal systems. You will produce and validate payments, government remittances, monthly reports, group insurance invoices, Records of Employment, T4s, and RL-1s.

You will work closely with human resources, crew management, and operational units—because here, payroll is always a team effort.

This role exposes you to a vast variety of situations, continuous problem solving, and consistent learning, particularly regarding provincial and federal laws. You’ll never be bored!

What We Expect From You

You are rigorous, structured, and love when numbers add up. You feel comfortable in an environment with multiple systems, evolving procedures, frequent manual validations, multiple collective agreements, and strict deadlines.

We are looking for someone who asks the right questions, documents what they learn, works well under pressure without losing precision, understands the “why” behind data, and naturally collaborates and shares information.

You must also feel comfortable in a hybrid environment undergoing technological transformation and still partly paper-based.

You will work with a supportive, solution-oriented manager and a friendly, discreet, collaborative, and experienced team.

Why You Will Love It

You’ll have a rich and varied payroll role, far from repetitive or rigid environments. You will learn quickly about the maritime industry, legislation, agreements, and advanced payroll practices. You will work in a human-centered atmosphere with a team that supports you and a manager who encourages autonomy. You will also have opportunities for growth depending on your experience and ambitions. Plus, you’ll enjoy a flexible schedule, hybrid work after training, and attractive conditions.

Specifically, the main responsibilities are to:

        • Full payroll processing: preparing, verifying, and processing payroll according to established deadlines
        • Ensuring compliance with labor laws, tax standards, and internal policies
        • Applying deductions (insurance, RRSP, taxes, etc.) and managing benefits files
        • Identifying and correcting payroll errors with HR and finance partners
        • Ensuring data accuracy in the payroll system and making required adjustments (status changes, increases, etc.)
        • Preparing payroll reports, tax slips, and other documents supporting financial management and decision-making
        • Acting as a resource person for employees and managers on payroll and benefits-related questions
        • Proposing improvements to automate and optimize payroll processes
        • Preparing end-of-employment documents (Records of Employment, compensation, etc.) and ensuring compliance

Working conditions

        • Permanent position
        • A schedule of 37.5 hours per week, distributed from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
        • Telecommuting policy
        • Comprehensive group insurance program (including dental insurance)
        • Registered Retirement Savings Plan (with employer contribution)
        • Employee assistance program and telemedicine
        • Monthly wellness allowance
        • Ongoing employee training program
        • Social club
        • Parking available and accessible via the Québec-Lévis ferry
        • Annual vacation
        • Floating vacations, sick leave and statutory holidays

In addition to these advantages, discover the joys of working in the Petit Champlain neighborhood right by the water (perfect for a morning or evening jog!), with boutiques and outdoor cafés!

Required Skills

        • DEC in accounting or equivalent experience
        • Minimum 2–3 years of experience
        • Experience with collective agreements
        • Knowledge of the Canada Labour Code and Québec Labour Standards Act
        • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel
        • Mastery of French and functional English (able to take written and verbal messages)
        • Ability to work under pressure
        • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
        • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
        • Autonomy, organization, rigor, priority management, and sound judgment
